This is Top 3 Pre-Workout Ingredients! I’m about to share the ingredients that pack the most punch in your pre-workout

Of course there are many other effective ingredients outside of these three. As always, you need to find what works for you. But for most of us in the fitness world, these are the absolute essentials.

1. Caffeine


The mother of all pre-workout ingredients! But for good reason! caffeine has been giving people all over the planet a jolt for thousands of years. The ancient Chinese drank tea, the Ethiopians drank coffee, and today many of us around the globe use it for focus and energy. It should come as no surprise that caffeine is found in nearly every pre-workout on the market.

How it works

Caffeine works to stimulate the nervous system by blocking the chemical Adenosine. This is what gives caffeine its anti-sleep effect. Adenosine is one of your body’s natural mechanisms to preserve energy and make us tired. Adenosine makes us feel sleepy, fatigued, and generally lethargic.

When it’s your time to shine in the gym, caffeine steps up to give you that extra boost when you need it most!

2. Creatine


According to the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), creatine is one of the most effective sports supplements available today. And while creatine doesn’t necessarily need to be taken immediately before exercise (research shows that it can be taken at any point in the day), it is still an essential ingredient in your daily supplement intake (because what better way to take it than in a pre-workout?).

How it works

Creatine works by increasing ATP (energy for your body) to support muscle cells. Athletes of all kind benefit from the extra energy for cellular functions. The benefits of this extra ATP include an increase in strength, lean body mass, and endurance.

3. Beta-Alanine


Beta-alanine is one of my favorite pre-workout ingredients. It’s a well-researched molecule that is found in nearly every pre-workout I’ve ever taken. It’s known for giving its users a harmless tingling feeling known as paresthesia. Now I may be in the minority but I often look forward to that feeling prior to an intense workout!

How it works

When beta-alanine is ingested it is transformed into carnosine. This chemical process protects the body from pH drops (like muscle-induced lactic acid buildups) which prevents muscle fatigue. Because of its effect on muscular endurance it is a key ingredient for when you need to get one last rep out of your set.

These are my three personal favorite pre-workout ingredients. They’re all fantastically well-researched and safe to use. Many pre-workout companies have even made their own modifications to these compounds in the interest of making their product stand out from the competition.
